Concrete Finishes
Skilled concrete finishers can make concrete look
like wood, slate or several other building materials. In addition,
they can scale
large expanses of concrete down by adding visual details. While
Rempel does not provide finishing services, we have relationships
with many top quality placers and finishers. Click here to contact
a Rempel sales representative for more information.
COLOURS
Concrete
can be produced in a variety of colours by mixing in coloured pigments
which then form an integral part of the concrete.
Rempel offers fifteen standard colours plus many more custom choices.

Colour
Cautions: Colour in a given mix design can vary slightly from load
to load, so special consideration should be given to:
- The consistency
of the slump. If a higher slump is required, a superplasticizer
is recommended.
- The addition of water.
- Where one load ends and another begins.
- Use only non-chloride
accelerators as calcium chloride can dramatically change the
colour of any concrete.
- As with all concrete, coloured concrete
should be cured for 3 to 7 days. The age and temperature of the
concrete
when it
is poured
will affect the colour, in addition to the type and
consistency of
subgrades and forms.
- Sealers should not be used on coloured
concrete flatwork as mottling of the surface can occur.
PATTERNS AND TEXTURES
Concrete can be pattern-stamped
with special tools to create the custom look and feel of slate,
cobblestone, brick,
tile and many other patterns. An exposed aggregate finish gives
traditional concrete a more natural look. It is achieved by washing
away the
surface mortar as the concrete hardens. Rempel uses special
river aggregates from the eastern Fraser Valley for its "famous" beautiful
exposed aggregate concrete.
